An open standard for vehicle data

Draft 0.26 · English and German

CMD describes vehicle types, individual vehicles and dated observations in a common format. Use these guides to understand the model, record a practical case or look up a field.

Choose your route

  • Understand the model: Types and vehicles separates a technical type from a physical vehicle.
  • Apply a practical case: record a new vehicle, then explore workshop, appraiser, manufacturer, supplier and towing cases.
  • Look up an attribute: the attribute reference shows meaning, type, unit and requiredness per field.

For an import, start with validation. To keep earlier statements, use evidence and history. To agree which supplier details accompany an exchange, read data sources and required fields. An address or GLN is not required for every participant.

Development

Choose the PHP, Java/Kotlin or JavaScript/TypeScript guide for your application. Check raw JSON with the JSON Schema guide before SDK validation.

Use application integration for the import flow and check required fields on import for an agreed contract. The receiving application chooses the agreement; incoming JSON does not choose it. A bundle is a document container, not a Symfony Kernel Bundle.

For project work, use repository and tests and documentation maintenance. Search works locally. The language selector opens the same page in the other language; field names, codes and units stay unchanged.

Authority and limits

CMD is not a vehicle lookup service, workshop system or certified manufacturer catalog. Orders, sales and business decisions stay in the application.

The English docs/spec/cmd.md and accepted decisions in docs/adr/ remain authoritative. JSON Schemas define and check document shape. The hand-written SDKs check implemented field and relationship rules. PostgreSQL provides a reference storage model with additional constraints.

The dictionary borrows the clear layout of GDSN references. CMD is not a GS1/GDSN implementation or certification.

Examples use constructed demo data, not real vehicle records. Sources and rights explains the project license and example data.
